Ah. Another month and more races on the calendar. Here are some of the big ones coming up:
- The San Sebastian Classic one day race is tomorrow. This guy who takes long vacations then wins races named Alberto Contador will be there. He came from the beach to win the Giro and hasn’t raced since. Stay tuned.
- The road race at the Olympic games is the 9th. Cadel Evans dropped out of the Olympics earlier in the week, and news came today that Norwegian Thor Hushovd (Credit Agricole) has decided to stay home as well. Hmm. Maybe he has to focus on finding a team for next season – Credit Agricole is kaput.
- The ENECO Tour of Luxembourg will run from the 20th to the 27th. This would be the showcase event for the Schleck brothers, but will they do this one or rest up for the Vuelta?
- The GP Ouest France de Plouay is on the 25th
- The Veulta starts on the 30th and runs through September 21st. Contador has his sights set firmly on this one as well
The post-Tour criteriums continue. Here are some results:
- Bernhard Kohl (Gerolsteiner) won the Volksbank Nightrace in Waidhofen, Austria. He broke away on the last lap and won ahead of Thomas Rohregger (Elk Haus) and Bernhard Eisel (Columbia). I think Gerolsteiner is making a mistake by walking away from this team.
- It was a day for sprinters in Herentals, Belgium. Mark Cavendish (Columbia) won the three-man sprint ahead of Tom Boonen (Quick Step) and Philippe Gilbert (Francaise des Jeux).
- Frank Schleck (CSC Saxo Bank) won in Wateringen in the Netherlands. He came in ahead of Sebastian Langeveld (Rabobank) and Niki Terpstra (Milram).
- Tour of Denmark: Homeland boy Matti Breschel of CSC Saxo Bank won Stage 2 and took the yellow jersey. He took the third stage as well and leads Jakob Fuglsang (Team Designa Køkken) by 19 seconds.
Tech News:
- The big news in products and technology is the official release of the electronic Dura Ace group. I’ll have full article on this in a couple of days.
