Project Cross

August 12th, 2008 by Ron Callahan View Comments

We’ve covered cyclocross a little bit around here, and I expect that I will be following a little more closely this season.

It’s definitely caught my interest personally, and with an excellent cross series in the area, I’ve wanted to try it myself. I do not have a cross bike and am reluctant to make the full bore investment in one until I’ve had a chance to try it out, so I have decided to convert my mountain bike to a cross bike.

I’ve already found a replacement for my boat anchor of a fork and am now working through shifting, braking, handlebars and so on. In order to stay on budget, I’m thinking that I’ll use bar-end shifters, keep my Deore XT derailleurs, switch from v-brakes to cantis and put some bigger rings on the MTB cranks.

I’ll post a “before” picture of the bike when I get a chance.
