Review: DHB Merston Tights

January 13th, 2009 by Review Man No Comment

I first became aware of these cycling tights when I read a review about them on the RoadCyclingUK website. When I decided to race this year and knew that I would be doing a lot of cold weather training, I wanted to give them a try.

I have to admit – the first thing that attracted me to these tights was the price. They retail for under $60 at current exchange rates. You would have a hard time finding a pair of non-insulated bib shorts at that price.

The Merston’s are made with a wind resistant thermo-stretch brushed fabric, along with a double layer at the knee, which keeps them warm without restricting articulation. The upper bibs feature a stretchy fleecy material which keeps your kidneys warm, and they also have the added benefit of a ‘Comfort zip’ so you don’t have to do contortions to relieve yourself. Within the tights can be found a Silver Dry pad which is breathable and has anti-odor, anti-bacterial and moisture control properties. Finally, the ankles feature zips with Silicone ankle grippers and reflective piping to help keep them in place and you seen.

On the road, they proved to have a comfortable chamois and kept me plenty warm down into the lower forties. The best compliment I can give them is that they were comfortable and non binding and have made it easier for me to get out and ride in cold weather.
