Back to “New Amsterdam”
The New York Times has an article and two slideshows this morning on the growing popularity of Dutch style bikes in New York City. Some love them for their European look, some for the practicality, and for a certain segment of the population they make far more sense than a fixed gear bike or a hybrid.
New York city government is taking aims to help out all bikers in the city, installing bike shelters, looking at bike share programs and investigating ways to get developers to provide secure bicycle parking in new buildings.
It may just be the latest fashion trend (indeed, the article is in their Fashion section), but anything that gets more people out of their car and onto a bike is okay with me.
