Giro del Trentino News:
- Domenico Pozzovivo and Fortunato Baliani will lead the CSF-Navigare team for the Giro del Trentino. The rest of the squad is Canuti Federico, Alessandro Bisolti, Marco Frapporti, Umberto Nardecchia, Enrico Zen and Simone Stortoni.
- Team Air Force-Amica chips will send Leonardo Bertagnolli, Santo Anza, Igor Astarloa, Matita Kvasina, Eddy Ratti, Branislau Samoilau, Edoardo Girardi and Andrei Kunitski.
- Andreas Kloden will lead the Astana squad for the race. Yaroslav Popovych and Jani Brajkovic will also race.
News:
- Carlos Sastre will pass on the Fleche-Wallone to receive some sporting awards in Spain.
- Marianne Vos is looking to win the women’s edition of the Fleche Wallone for the third time in a row.
- Mark Cavendish will be part of Columbia-High Road’s team for the Giro.
- Damiano Cunego has said that Liege-Bastogne-Liege is his ultimate goal this week, but if he is near the front for Wednesday’s Fleche Wallone he will “not pull the brakes”.
- My middle name is Thomas, so I’ll believe it when it see it: The UCI has said that they will release the names of those caught doping under the new biological passport program by the end of the month.
- There will (may) be a new continental team in Belgium next year: Jatarzi will work with travel operator Thomas Cook and will manage 20 riders, who will be a mix of Belgian and other nationalities. Thomas Cook is denying any cooperation.
- Theo Bos (Rabobank) is “sick” over the aftermath of the collision with Barloworld’s Daryl Impey that took sent the Tour of Turkey leader to the hospital. After watching the video of the crash, he understands why people would think that he intentionally grabbed Impey and pulled him down. He maintains that even in the rough and tumble world of kierin racing he never employed such tactics. Obviously, he wants to clear his name and his record and does not want to be known this way.
- Nico Mattan’s Cinelli-Down Under team is once again in dire financial straits. The team had a private sponsor that said they would guarantee the team payroll, but they have backed out.
- The 33rd edition of the Route de Sud-Depeche du Midi race will take place from June 18 to 21. Teams expected to appear are Caisse d’Épargne, Bbbox Bouygues, La Française des jeux, Cofidis, AG2r La Mondiale, Agritubel, Auber 93, Roubaix Lille Métropole, Bretagne-Schuller, Besson-Sojasun, Ceramica Flaminia, Miche Silver Cross, Team Neotel Stegcomputer, Xacobeo Galicia, Vancansoleil.
- Skil-Shimano will look to Albert Timmer, Theo Eltink, Floris Goesinnen, Jonathan Hivert, Thierry Hupond, Fumiyuki Beppu, Yukihiro Doi and Simon Geschke to go for a win at Fleche Wallone.
- Scott will be unveiling their new Plasma time trial bike in conjunction with Team Columbia-Highroad at the start of the Giro d’Italia.
- Spain has passed a national law that forbids out of competition doping controls from taking place between the hours of 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. WADA rules state that athletes are to be available 24 hours a day.
- Former Gerolsteiner manager Hans-Michael Holczer is in negotiations to join the new British Sky TV team. He would work for the team as a consultant.
- Ivano Fanin, owner of Amore & Vita McDonald’s, has filed a lawsuit against Mario Cipollini requesting that he pays damages for alleged non-compliance with a 1998 contract that stipulated Mario riding with the team.
- TD Bank Philadelphia International Cycling Championships organizer Dave Chauner says that he is working hard to find new sponsors and revenue sources to keep the race going.
The Disabled List:
- Milram’s Fabian Wegmann is down with the flu and will miss the Ardennes Classics
- Alessandro Bertolini (Diquigiovanni – Androni) is also down and out with sinusitis and will be replaced by teammate Nazareno Rossi for Leige-Bastogne-Liege and Fleche Wallone.
- Frank Schleck is still an unknown for the Fleche Wallone. He’s said to still be recovering from the mild concussion he suffered at the Amstel Gold Race.
- Xacobeo Galicia cyclist Ezequiel Mosquera had a fall at home and injured his left hand. He can’t support his weight on the bike.
- Quick Step has said that Tom Boonen broke a foot in his fall at the Scheldeprijs and will spend a dozen days off of the foot. The rest period should not affect his training for the Tour de France.
