Cervelo’s Kirsten Wild wins back to back victories
Cervelo Test Team’s Kirsten Wild racked up two victories over the weekend:
Kirsten Wild was able to outsprint Marianne Vos (DSB/LTO) and Alexandra Greenfield (National Team Great Britain) to win today’s Omloop van Borsele in The Netherlands.
“Today’s race was in a windy Holland for a distance of 120 km,” stated Manel Lacambra Cervélo TestTeam Sports Director. “From the start, we had the whole team in the front and we gave it full power because of the narrow roads and the wind. We tried to attack and Regina was able to launch a solo attack from the 30 km mark.
“Elizabeth Armitstead (Lotto-Belisol Ladies Team) and Alexandra Burchenkova (National Russia Team) attacked in the final kilometers. Behind the leading duo was a group of 9 riders and only Regina Bruins from our team was there. We then decided to organize the team in the front and bring the breakaway group back with our team closing the gap and causing the peloton split up again. Regina and Kirsten where in the new front group and Regina prepared the sprint for Kirsten Wild who won in front of Marianne Vos and Alexandra Greenfield.”
Kirsten Wild raced to her second victory of the weekend today winning the Grand Prix Stad Roeselare (Belgium). Second place went to Rochelle Gilmore (Lotto) with third place going to Liesbeth de Vocht (DSB).
“Today we controlled the entire race,” said Manel Lacambra, Sports Director Cervélo TestTeam. “We maintained a high speed to prevent any chance of attack and consequently there was none, not even from our team as we were looking for a sprint. In the final Sarah (Düster) did the lead out for Kirsten and again she was the strongest and won the race. Two victories within 24 hours. We are very glad – it was a perfect race from the entire team – everyone did a great work and the victory was our reward.”
