Lance Armstrong wins Leadville 100
If you haven’t seen it, straight from Velo News:
Lance Armstrong (Mellow Johnny’s) won Colorado’s Leadville 100 on Saturday, knocking more than 15 minutes off of the old record.
Armstrong moved out of a strong group of favorites – including six-time winner Dave Wiens – on Columbine pass, riding alone for 60 miles and eventually built his lead up to 18 minutes. Armstrong finished the 100-mile race in a time of 6:28:50, a significant improvement over the existing record of 6:45:45.
Wiens is unofficially the second-place finisher.
Armstrong reportedly rode a portion of the race on a flat tire. He crossed the line and immediately disappeared into the rest room. Reporters are currently awaiting his arrival at a press conference.
