Lance Armstrong jets around Europe + more racing news

Lance Armstrong is jetting all over Europe. After flying into Scotland for an impromptu ride with 300 Twitter followers, he went to Dublin for a U2 concert and hung out with architect Frank Gehry before heading to Oslo today for the Oslo Grand Prix. He’ll be back in Ireland this weekend for the three day Tour of Ireland
More road racing news:
- The Three Valleys Varesine race was not lucky for Camioro A-Style rider Francesco Tizzano. He had a bad fall and was transported to the hospital in Varese where it was found that he suffered a broken collarbone as well a a contusion on his knee.
- Silence-Lotto riders Roy Sentjens, Bart Dockx, Pieter Jacobs and Gorik Gardeyn have all been released from the team for 2010. Team management says that the riders did not meet expectations. The decision is not final; if they have better results before the end of the season, they may get a reprieve.
- Quick Step’s Wouter Weylandt is expressing anger at not being selected for the Vuelta a Espana. Team manager Patrick Lefevre says that he expected more from the riders and that he has not really done anything since Paris-Roubaix. Lefevre says that a standout performance in the Eneco Tour may change his mind.
- Milram has expressed interest in Karsten Kroon, and think that he may be a strong asset for the team in the spring classics. Kroon is currently riding for Saxo Bank.
- Servais Knaven extended with Milram for another year. The 38 year old rider has been a professional for sixteen years. He came to Milram earlier this year after a stint with Columbia-Highroad.
- Dutch cycling manufacturer Koga has extended their collaboration with the Skil-Shimano team by two years. The brand is looking forward to growing with the team as they move towards Pro Tour classification and they are working together on a new time trial frame as well as a full carbon road bike.
- The Cervelo Test Team is looking for a stage win and a podium placing at the Vuelta. Jose Angel Gomez Marchante finished 5th in 2006. Marchante will be backed by IƱigo Cuesta, Philip Deignan, Xavier Florencio, Simon Gerrans, Roger Hammond, Ignatas Konovalovas, Joaquin Novoa, Gabriel Rasch, Dominique Rollin and Marcel Wyss.
Results:
- Tyler Farrar took his 2nd victory in four days, notching a stage win at the Eneco Tour. He outsprinted Tom Boonen and Edvald Boasson Hagen in Wednesday’s 160km stage.
- Frenchman Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis) took the lead of the Tour du Limousin after success on the 186.6 km second stage.
