2009 Interbike Preview

September 14th, 2009 by Ron Callahan View Comments

Yes, it’s Interbike time again, and Bike World News will be returning to North America’s largest bicycle show to bring you all of the latest products.

Our trip will start at the Outdoor Demo in Boulder Canyon, Nevada, about 45 minutes away from the Vegas strip. Over those 2 days, we’ll be taking the opportunity to photograph and ride a lot of the bikes that you’ll be seeing in your local shop in 2010. Look for photographs each day and detailed reports later.

The trade show itself starts on Wednesday at the Sands Convention Center. We’ve got a lot of appointments lined up, but we’ll also be roaming the floor and photographing whatever catches our eye. Just a few of the vendors that we’re already booked to visit are Electra, Ellsworth, Cyfac, Museeuew, Scott, Moots, Ritchey, Camelbak, MOA/Nalini, Louis Garneau, Harlot, Skirt sports and more.

Of course, we love our road bikes here, and we’re very excited to have snagged an appointment with Scott. We’ll be looking at their entire line, but can’t wait to see what’s new with their Addict road bikes.

Velo Europa Imports and Cyfac bikes will also be back at the show. We’re eager to see their Vintage model in person as well as take a gander at their Gothica Cyclo semi-custom carbon fiber bike.

Museeuw is back at Interbike with their very unique bikes made with a composite of flax and carbon fiber. They say that the flax provides excellent absorption of “micro-shocks”and we hope to take a ride on one to see for ourselves. They also have a full carbon line that emphasizes power transfer.

We’re also scheduled to stop in and visit Wilier Triestina. Wilier is celebrating 104 years of history. After wowing the world last year with their unique and visually stunning Cento Uno, they are back this year with the Cento Uno Superleggera. This bike builds on the winning form and characteristics of the Cento Uno, but knocks off 130 grams of weight.

As we’ve said in the past, we love our road bikes here but realize that you’re not going to take the road bike to the grocery store. We’ll be taking a bit of a closer look at city and commuter bikes this year.

Electra is showing off a new line of city bikes that evoke classic European hand built bikes while including modern updates.

Also in the city bike vein, there is Kalkhoff, a German manufacturer that is bringing its line of sporty commuter and e-bikes to the U.S. in October.

In apparel, Louis Garneau has been rolling out new product news like there is no tomorrow. Some of their latest products include the Carbon X-Lite cycling shoe, the Quartz helmet, the Pro Carbon ETS jersey and more.

Nalani and their parent company MOA make the clothing for the Columbia-HTC, Rabobank and Liquigas teams (among many others) and are hoping to make more of a impact in the U.S. market with every-day riders. They are focusing their promotion on their 100% Italian made fall & winter line. We’ll be checking that out as well as seeing what else they have in store.

We’ll be sure to stop by and visit Keen who has a line of cycling specific shoes, socks and bags coming for Spring/Summer 2010. We really like the look of their Coronado “cruiser” shoe.

We’re also scheduled to visit with Harlot, Skirt Sports, Sock Guy, Sugoi & Castelli.
