Yes, things are getting back to normal here at Bike World News HQ, plumbing the depths of a million RSS feeds to bring you the jewels of bicycle racing news from around the world.
In today’s news, Cadel may pass on the TdF, more signings, Cav ends his season, Vacansoleil to Lombardy and more…
- Cadel Evans may take a pass on the Tour de France next year, thinking that his chances may be better at the Giro or the Vuelta. Herman Frison, one of his always positive Silence-Lotto team managers, says that, “”With Alberto Contador, Lance Armstrong and Andy Schleck there, it will be very difficult for him to win the Tour in the coming years. I would like to see him aim to win the Giro or the Vuelta. That would be a great victory and it is a goal within his reach.”
- Roy Sentjens has extended with Silence-Lotto for another year. He was originally told that there was no room for him at the team, but they were able to come to terms. Olivier Kaisen also signed a new one year contract with the team. The 26-year-old Belgian won earlier this year a stage in the Tour of Turkey.
- Vacansoleil has recevied a wildcard invitation to October 17th’s Tour of Lombardy. Team manager Hilaire Van der Schueren is pleased with the invitation. “I think the fact that we received a wild card for this wonderful recognition rates for the performance of the team in the past year.”
- Mark Cavendish is calling it quits for the rest of the year as well. He has been laid low by a respiratory infection after winning two stages at the Tour of Missouri. He was planning to do Paris-Tours on October 11th, but team management is not going to let him start.
- The 2009 USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships will take place September 30 to October 4 at the Home Depot Center Velodrome in Carson, CA on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. The USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships are the National Championships for the sport and will feature more than 300 elite cyclists from across the United States – including rising stars, as well as 2012 Olympic hopefuls.
- Oscar Perreiro, (sort of) winner of the 2006 Tour de France in 2006, may possibly transfer to the Xacobeo-Galicia for next year where he may end his career in 2010 of 2011. He says that he does not have many years left and would like to end his career with a team from his home region.
- BBox team manager Jean-Rene Bernaudeau says that the UCI’s decision to not grant the team a Pro Tour license in 2010 does not unduly affect the team’s goals for next year.
- Lizzie Armitstead has signed a two-year deal to join Great Britain team-mate Emma Pooley at the Cervelo Test Team.
