Morkov & Rasmussen move into Munich lead

November 17th, 2009 by Al Fresco View Comments

Last night, Team Saxo Bank’s Michael Morkov and Alex Rasmussen took the lead of the Six Days of Munich.

“Again tonight, we were feeling strong and we did a strong piece of teamwork. We were always ahead of things. Risi & Marvulli went in front of us just before the finish after winning an incredibly tough lap. Quickly, we did a lap and when we brought the peloton to a standstill and the torque to a double lap was at hand. Alex powerfully shot through the field and we got a half lap before the Swiss reacted. It was a big struggle but we turned out victorious,” Morkov said.

He continued, “The battle today has given us great morale and made us believe we can succeed in winning this edition of the race. We have a good lead which means that we can save a little more strength than the other couples before the decisive final Madison tomorrow night.” He concluded, “We will try to keep up with the Swiss and beat them in the decisive sprint. We need them to defend when the other nations are attacking in the final.”

The race ends Tuesday night.
