Interbike Vendor Spotlight: Moots
We met with Moots just hours after their own Jon Cariveau won the Wheelers and Dealers event at Cross Vegas on a Moots Psychlo X, but we were there to see the all new Vamoots RSL.
The Vamoots RSL (Race Super Light) is a “blank sheet” design for the company and it resulted in their lightest, stiffest bike yet. Made from Reynolds 3/2.5 titanium tubing that is tapered and double butted in England, the frameset also incorporates a pressfit BB30 bottom bracket. The “pencil” seat stays are made with 6/4 Ti for better vertical compliance. The chain stays are taper butted and are thicker at the dropouts than at the BB.
The head tube has been sculpted and CNC machined for weight savings and the frameset also features an all new fork that has been jointly designed with Alpha Q.
The frame and fork comes in at 2.5 pounds and 14.5 pound complete builds with SRAM Red and Zipp 303s are completely feasible.
The frame and fork retail for $4425, and a build kit consisting of frame, fork, stem and post is available for $5200. Like all of Moots’ frames, it comes with a lifetime warranty.
Also new for 2010 is the RSL road stem. Exceptionally light and durable, the RSL stem was designed to complement the Vamoots RSL frame. With a windowed steerer clamp, a double band faceplate and 6/4 ti bolts, it weighs in at 121 grams, 22% lighter than their Open Road stem.
