Italy’s anti-doping prosecutor has recommended a three year ban for Danilo DiLuca to Italy’s National Olympic Committee related to two doping positives in the 2009 Giro

The 2007 Giro champion failed tests for the 3rd generation EPO drug Mircera on May 20 and 28 but continues to maintain his innocence. Prosecutors are asking for three years in light of a previous 3 month suspension related to his involvement with the so-called “Oil for Drugs” scandal in 2007. If approved, the ban would run from July 22nd of 2009 and it is likely that DiLuca would also be hit with a fine and made to pay court costs.
