Apres Velo brings a new look to cycling casual wear

February 6th, 2010 by Ron Callahan View Comments

Aprés Velo has been recognized as one of the most innovative new brands in sports by the ISPO BrandNew Awards, the world’s largest sporting goods and sportstyle trade fair. Aprés Velo is among four finalists in the style category and was considered among nominees from around the globe for the honor.

Leonard Greis, BiG Cog of the Aprés Velo brand , said this is a “tremendous honor for the brand,” which has been in global markets for three years and recently opened a distributorship in the United States.

Known for high-quality after-cycling lifestyle apparel that features heritage graphics and tongue-in-cheek humor, the Aprés Velo line is effectively a “wink and a nod” to the sport among its devoted cyclist base.

Characteristic of their Aussie sense of humor, Greis posted on the company’s blog “We’re very proud of our team of designers (there is one; who doesn’t drink) and are quite surprised that in between race stages and drinking way too much mulled wine, they actually remember to design anything.” To their customer/fan base around the world, he continued, “To our COG-regation who helped us get this exposure, we thank you from the bottom of our espresso cup. Live the Ride, people!”

The apparel, reflecting what has been called a wicked Australian wit, features graphics and messages that cyclists around the world relate to. Special pigment dyes, irregular stitching and super-soft cotton fabrics contribute to the brand’s appeal.

Starting in 2006 with just a handful of enthusiasts in Sydney, the company grew out of a passion for the sport and its associated lifestyle, becoming a subculture hit that now distributes globally through distributorships on three continents and online sales. The AV team is geared up to hit Germany in search of distributors throughout Europe; as well as spread the Cycling Gospel/religion/passion according to Aprés Velo.

The ISPO BrandNew Awards is a juried competition and awardees will be highlighted at the expo in Munich, February 7-10. The event attracts 1,950 exhibitors and 60,000 trade attendees.

“We appreciate the ISPO BrandNew recognition and the opportunity to ‘expose ourselves’ to a larger audience,” Greis concluded with a grin.
