Tour of the Catskills Reaches 22 States

August 2nd, 2011 by Al Fresco One Comment

of the 2011 are proud to announce that at least 22 States will be represented at this weekend’s 4th annual event in the Catskills Mountains of State.  Nearly 700 racers are currently registered and more than 800 are expected by the start of the event on Friday in Hunter.   15 States and 5 countries were represented in 2010.

The 3-day race begins on Friday, August 5 with the 12-mile, Individual Time Trial in Hunter.

The Saturday and Sunday road races – August 6 & 7 – feature epic climbs in Greene and Ulster Counties.  Saturday’s 65-mile (96 miles for professional men) in Tannersville showcases the famed‘Devil’s Kitchen’ climb in the Town of Saugerties featured in the Tour de Trump in the 1990’s.  Sunday’s 59-mile (91 miles for professional men) in Windham includes the difficult Susquehanna Turnpike climb in the Town of Durham, and the Airport Rd climb in the Town of Lexington.

The race is also seeking volunteer support for the event.   A few volunteers are still needed for each day – Friday through Sunday – including course marshals, registration personnel, and start/ helpers.  All volunteers will receive an event t-shirt, training, and all materials necessary for their responsibilities.  The organizers seek the support of local civic groups and charitable organizations via their Group Giveback Program where qualifying groups will receive donations on behalf of the race and its sponsors for their contribution toward the safety of the event.  Details of the volunteer program can be found on the event website at www.tourofthecatskills.com/volunteer.  The volunteer training is scheduled for Friday at the Hunter Mountain Resort  – 7:30-8:30 PM.
