October 28th, 2011 by Ron Callahan No Comment

Before the winter break, Lampre-ISD is already focusing their attention on 2012 and Damiano Cunego is increasingly seen as a leader for the new season.

The Italian cyclist spent the afternoon in the Mapei Sport Service for technical evaluation tests organized by the staff of Mapei structure with the support of Dr. Guardascione, Lampre-ISD’s chief of medicine.

Dr. Guardascione explained  the activity that was performed today, “They were tests for endurance and VO2max: They allow us to monitor the fitness of the athlete in order to collect info that is very useful in the planning of winter training programs. After considering these results and the athlete, we’ll give Cunego a specific program of preparation in view of the next season, even if the races of the program have not yet been decided.”

“On Sunday in Japan I took in my final race of the season. It Has Been A Long 2011,” Cunego explained. “During the year I lived beautiful moments and happy ones. Also less, but I had no regrets. I always gave my best. Also thanks to the good support by the team. Now I’m going to rest for some weeks, during which I’ll go on holiday with my family, maybe in Zanzibar. Then, I hope I’ll have the chance to attend some rally races before starting to perform the winter trainings.”

Another Lampre captain, Alessandro Petacchi, will reach the Mapei Sports Center tomorrow. Today, on his way to England, AleJet made a detour towards Maser (Treviso) where the headquarters of Gaerne are located. Petacchi wanted to pay a visit to the Gazzola family, owner of Gaerne, in order to discover the details of the racing shoes that the Italian brand will supply to the team in 2012: Gaerne and Lampre-ISD will work together for another year, thanks to the renewal of the supplying and sponsorship agreements.
