USICX: Van Gilder tops women’s standings

With four races on the United States International Cyclo-cross Calendar (USICX), last weekend, there were plenty of points available for riders. Riders contested three days of Jingle Cross Rock in Iowa City, Iowa, as well as one day of Baystate Cyclo-cross in Sterling, Mass., over Thanksgiving weekend.

MEN

Todd Wells (Durango, Colo./Specialized Racing) won, placed fourth and third at the three days of Jingle Cross Rock to collect 115 points and shoot into sixth place on the USICX men’s standings. Jamey Driscoll (Winooski, Vt./Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld) won the first day in Iowa City and placed second to register 100 points and keep pace with the leaders and remain in fifth place. Jeremy Powers(Easthampton, Mass./Team Rapha-Focus) remained in the top spot with a 12-point edge on Ryan Trebon(Bend, Ore./LTS-Felt). Ben Berden (BEL/Ops Ale-Clement), who placed fifth and fourth at two of the Jingle Cross Rock contests, is in third place, 66 points behind Trebon. Justin Lindine (New Salem, Mass./Bikereg.com-Joe’s Garage), who placed fifth at Baystate Cyclo-cross, sits in fourth place with a 45-point edge on Driscoll.

WOMEN

Laura van Gilder (Cresco, Pa./C3 p/b Mellow Mushroom) won Baystate Cyclo-cross to add 60 points and overtake Katerina Nash (CZE/Luna Pro Team) atop the USICX women’s standings. Nash now trails van Gilder by 52 points, but holds a 70-point edge over third-place rider Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Rabobank). Compton, who placed third at the UCI World Cup event over the weekend, has a 33-point cushion over Carolina Mani (FRA/CC Etupes Doubes Pay), who is in fourth place. Meredith Miller(Fort Collins, Colo./California Giant-Specialized) recorded a pair of wins and a second-place finish at Jingle Cross Rock to register 160 points and move from eighth into fifth place, overtaking Helen Wyman (GBR/Kona Factory Team), who slipped to sixth.
