USICX standings tighten as calendar draws to a close

As the United States International Cyclo-cross Calendar (USICX) winds down, points are at a premium. The riders contested two days of the USGP of Cyclocross Deschutes Brewery Cup in Bend, Ore. and the Kingsport Cyclo-cross Cup in Kingsport, Tenn., leaving only three races remaining on the elite calendars and one on the junior men’s docket.

MEN

Jeremy Powers (Easthampton, Mass./Team Rapha-Focus) swept the two days of the Deschutes Brewery Cup to accrue 120 points and assume the lead of theUSICX men’s standings. Powers overtook last week’s leader, Ben Berden (BEL/Ops Ale-Clement), and now holds a 78-point cushion.  (Bend, Ore./LTS-Felt) remains in third place, 54 points behind Berden and 98 points ahead of fourth-place rider  (Winooski, Vt./). Driscoll placed fourth and second in the two races in Bend, Ore., to overtake Justin Lindine (New Salem, Mass./BikeReg.com-Joe’s Garage) and assume fourth place. Lindine rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere on the USICX, Travis Livermon (Winterville, N.C./Smart Stop-Mock Orange Bikes p/b Ridley) topped the men’s field at the Kingsport Cup by 49 seconds.

WOMEN

(CZE/) swept the two days of racing in Bend, Ore., to close within two points of (Cresco, Pa./C3 p/b Mellow Mushroom) atop theUSICX women’s standings. (Fort Collins, Colo./ Giant-) slips down one spot into third place, 75 points off van Gilder’s pace. (Somerville, Mass./) placed 10th and eighth in the two races in Bend to hold on to fourth place. ( Springs, Colo./) sits in fifth place, 29 points behind Smith.

Marne Smiley (Ann Arbor, Mich./Bob’s Red Mill p/b Seven Cycles) won the women’s race at Kingsport Cyclo-cross Cup.

JUNIORS

Logan Owen (Bremerton, Wash./Team ) swept the the junior races at the USGP of Cyclo-cross Deschutes Brewery Cup in Bend, Ore., to move from 17th into fifth place of the USICX junior men’s standings, who has clinched the top spot of the standings, added 70 points to his total after finishing second and third in the two races. Zane Godby (, Colo./Clif Bar Development Cross Team) overtook Curtis White (Delanson, N.Y./Clif Bar Development Cross Team) after placing fourth and fifth. Godby trails Dillman by 160 points with one race remaining. White is 35 points behind Godby and 58 points ahead of Richard Cypress Gorry (Payson, Ariz./Whole Athlete-Specialized), who sits in fourth place.
