Compton tops American effort at World Cup in France

The () held the penultimate Cyclo-cross World CupSunday in Liévin, France.


 (Colorado Springs, Colo./-Giant), who earned her eighth consecutive national championship last weekend in Wisconsin, registered the best finish among American riders, earning the bronze. The winner, Marianne Vos (NED/Stichting Rabo Women Cycling Team) finished 1:14 ahead of Compton. The women’s champion and silver medalist in the elite women’s race in Wisconsin last weekend,  (Racine, Wisc./Cyclocrossworld-Cannondale Cyclocrossworld), finished 16th, 3:30 behind Vos, and Christine Vardaros (Wyckoff, N.J./BABOCO Cycling Team) finished 26th, nearly six minutes after the winner.

With one World Cup race remaining on the UCI’s calendar, Compton sits in fourth place, 81 points behind the leader, (NED/AA Drink-Leontien.nl Cycling Team), and one point out of third place, held by Lucie Chainel-Lefevre (FRA). Antonneau sits in 20th with 65 points, while  (Boulder, Colo./California Giant Cycling) has 35 points in 28th place.Maureen Bruno Roy (Arlington, Mass./Bob’s Red Mill-Seven Cycling) is one point behind Miller in 30th place. Antonneau’s teammate, Nicole Duke (Boulder, Colo.), is in 33rd place with 31 points. Vardaros holds 43rd place with nine points and Katherine Sherwin (Austin, Texas/Stan’s No Tubes) has two points in 49th place.

Elite Men
In the elite men’s race, newly-minted national champ  (Easthampton, Mass./Team Rapha-Focus) took 14th while (Northfield, N.H./Planet Bike) was 17th,  (Bend, Ore./LTS-Felt) was 22nd and (Winooski, Vt./Cyclocrossworld-Cannondale Cyclocrossworld) finished 30th.

In the elite men’s standings, Powers sits in 25th with 134 points, 376 points behind . Page sits in 29th with 124 points while  (Topsfield, Mass./Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) is in 37th with 91. Driscoll is in 50th place with 43 points, 14 points ahead of Trebon, who is in 58th place. Jeremy Durrin (Amherst, Mass./J.A.M. Fund-Northampton Cycling Club) is in 77th position with 16th points.

U23
 (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Team Rapha-Focus), who won the U23 men’s race at the national championships last weekend, placed 18th in the U23 race. McDonald was 2:15 behind the race winner, (NED). With one World Cup race remaining, McDonald is in 13th place with 49 points, 111 points behind Van Der Haar.

The final UCI World Cup race is slated for next weekend in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.
