Alberto Contador to testify in Operacion Puerto trial (AP)
Three-time Tour de France champion Alberto Contador is one of the cyclists who have been called to testify in the trial of seven people linked to the Operation Puerto doping scandal.
Spanish media reports say Contador, former Giro d’Italia winner Ivan Basso and Italy’s Michele Scarponi will be questioned by a Madrid court.
Madrid’s Superior Court is trying seven people on suspicion of providing doping services to cyclists in a 2006 case that implicated more than 50 cyclists in the use of performance-enhancing substances or practices.
Contador is still awaiting a decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport in his own unrelated doping probe. He could lose his 2010 Tour title over a positive sample the Spanish cyclist blames on contaminated meat.
