ASSOS announces new gear for Summer 2012

February 2nd, 2012 by Ron Callahan One Comment

of SA today announced the release of the SS.UNO, superLegerra ’s and ’s jersey and the T F1.Lady bib shorts. In stores now, they are ready for your summer riding, even if you are stuck in the doldrums of winter.

SS.UNO jersey picks up the mantel of the retiring Uno.

Setting out to improve the seminal SS.Uno ASSOS jersey was not an easy task. Few jerseys have had as much of an impact on jerseys as the SS.Uno has had. Nevertheless, with the 2012 SS.UNO, ASSOS has succeeded in  increasing the and indeed expectations for a top drawer everyday top.

Material improvements

Updating an ASSOS workhorse like the SS.Uno was not even possible until significant advancements in the fabrics and materials had been made. Lighter fabrics with greater breathability and stability have made the new SS.UNO the worthy successor to the former Uno. The front panels make use of the newly developed ASSOS Type.vX121 high performance fabric. Developed at the Lugano laboratory with the help of ASSOS’ textile partners, this material is exclusive to ASSOS. The wonder of the Type.vX121fabric is that it is extremely thin and light but has two unique surfaces that excel at pulling the moisture from the skin and pushing it to the outer limits of the fabric for ease of evaporation. The triple multi-filament microfiber threads are woven using a brand new mechanical technology to combine a non-restrictive racing fit with ultimate wicking performance.

Further advancements in the mesh material have been used to ventilate the underarm areas as well as a new airily perforated material used for the collar and rear section below the pockets. The shoulders have a breathable stretch fabric to ensure a snug racing fit with still plenty of freedom for movement. The arms have been lengthened slightly to increase protection from the harmful rays of the sun. To that end, the jersey has a UV protection level of 50+ while the material has Permanent Antibacterial Treatment to protect the fabric against odor-causing bacteria that end up degrading the material.

A place for your stuff

As with the retiring SS.Uno, the new SS.UNO has three main patch pockets and a fourth zippered pocket on the right hand side. The pockets have been designed to rest flat against the back when not full, but expand to practically any needed capacity when filled up with supplies. The rear panels  of the jersey have also been designed and cut to stay rock-solid stable on your back even when your pockets are over-loaded. There will be no swishing from side to side of your pockets when you are hauling ass down a busy mountain road.

Materials and Cut: two sides to the ASSOS coin
Once you put this baby on, you’ll understand what ASSOS means when it says that the tailoring is intended for the jersey to “click on” your body. The
ergonomic shaping and design will ensure that the SS.UNO will literally fit like a second skin when you are in a riding position. However  comfortable it will feel when you try it on in the shop dressing room, it will be a completely new and eye-opening experience when the luxuriously techy materials hug you’re anatomy once you’re in a tuck position on the ; you won’t be able to wait until can take your next ride!

Cycling in style : superleggera Lady

ASSOS recognizes that ladies need just as high quality equipment as men do. Few companies plow as much attention and care into their clothes as ASSOS, as is evidenced by their latest sleeveless jersey for ladies. The Mod.superleggera Lady sleeveless jersey makes happy use of all the innovations lavished on the male version, but with a petite cut to suit the anatomical needs of the serious lady cyclist.

Fashion in utility

The ability to create super utilitarian cycling pieces while still keeping them stylish and fashionable is an unabashed focus for ASSOS. The  Superleggera Lady is a prime example of a clothing piece that will work for an all day ride in July and keep the lady feeling smart and sexy  throughout. The cut has been developed to accommodate a lady’s slimmer figure. Aside from that, the materials are exactly what are used for the male version of the superleggera.

This means that the front panels make use of the Type.vX121 fabric used in the newly designed SS.1 short sleeve jersey. However much our grandmothers would deny it, ladies sweat too, making the pull and push properties inherent in the Type.vX121 fabric as appreciated as ever.

The three rear panels are also similar to the male version of this piece. The center panel is made from the ASSOS patented Stabilizator material which keeps it from stretching vertically. The single rear pocket with a protective flap will carry any essentials, while a similarly secure pocket on the front right side will keep any overflow.

Comfort comes first
Though the superleggera Lady is intended first and foremost for those hottest summer days, it can also be used as a comfy layering solution for those cooler trans-seasonal days. Add it underneath the SS.Lady jersey with a pair of armProtectors, and you’ll be able to extend the use of this jersey well into the autumn. Since so much care has been taken to keep the arm holes and neck opening luxuriously soft and adept at moisture management, the superleggera expertly regulates your body temperature in the heat or cold. With the ease of movement it provides and the clean, flattering design and cut, you’ll be looking forward to the dog days of summer even more.

T FI.Lady bib short takes women’s shorts to a new level

Until recently, outstanding bib shorts for every day comfort had been the lucky providence only of male specific clothing lines. ASSOS has added the Mod. T_FI.Lady bib shorts to its lineup so that ladies could also have access to high performance bib shorts designed to be a workhorse day in and day out on the road.

It’s all about the fit

At ASSOS, comfort and fit are paramount. Every design touch is carefully thought out and then tested in real ride settings. The T_FI.Lady bib shorts are the result of hundreds of hours of rides taken by serious female cyclists. You can feel the invested effort in the details. Making use of the ASSOS patented ABC hook and eye closure, the T_FI. Lady bibs will fit perfectly from torso to thigh since the Y-panel in the bib construction can be adjustable to three different closure lengths allowing for variances between longer and shorter torsos.

Acknowledging that a lady’s anatomy is different, even if her ability to hammer the pedals all day long is not, ASSOS has redesigned the leg gripper for the T_FI.Lady to make it more comfortable and look better. This is because ASSOS designers recognize that the female body naturally stores more fat than the male body, and when the leg grippers are made too tight around a lady’s leg, it can be not only uncomfortable but also cause an unnatural bulge. Consequently, the gummie leg grippers for the T_FI.Lady are present only around the rear of the leg opening, leaving the front half of the opening with a reinforced lycra. It will still be very effective in keeping the leg-fit perfect while eliminating any unwanted skin impression.

Luxurious materials
By lavishing the T_FI.Lady with their Type.434 custom textile blend, ASSOS has ensured that these bib shorts will be flexible and durable over multiple seasons of hard riding. The fabric uses a superFlat macro-dimensional fiber which allows for an extremely tight weave per square inch. The construction focuses on a return stretch which promotes flexible but effective muscle compression. ASSOS has also incorporated an iceColor  technology which reduces the heat absorption to keep the rider wonderfully cool in even the hottest, sunniest weather. Finally, a P.A.T. or Permanent Antibacterial Treatment will inhibit the formation of bacteria throughout the lifespan of the bibs.

Well padded nest
ASSOS innovations are pervasive throughout the high performance clothing industry. Every cyclist wearing modern bib shorts sits on one of the most
important innovations every time he or she takes a ride: the elastic interface insert. Every pad that moves with you instead of rubbing against you is
a result of the ASSOS Comfort Revolution. The T_FI.Lady insert is made from the current ASSOS S5 waffle technology which makes it 35% more
breathable than other pads. That will help keep the pad from soaking up friction-causing moisture which result in irritated skin and saddle soars.
Low-volume and ergonomically cut to fit the smaller shape of a woman, the T_FI.Lady insert will conform to the rider’s every movement while still providing all day comfort.

Men’s superLegerra jersey more technologically advanced than your skin!

With its elegant styling and advanced engineering, the ASSOS superleggera sleeveless jersey may be just about the best looking item in your cycling closet. Many summer gilets are lazy designs where short sleeved jerseys have simply had their sleeves cut off. The superleggera stands alone as not only receiving the best materials found on the top line sleeved jerseys, but also gets a special treatment and design innovation unique to its purpose and befitting a new member of the ASSOS collection.

The best materials have been judiciously used so that the superleggera can be shaped perfectly to conform to the needs of the serious cyclist. The front panels are made from the Type.vX121 fabric used in the newly designed SS.UNO short sleeve jersey. This means that the front panels have the same outstanding moisture pull and push properties that the SS.UNO boasts. As an extremely thin and light fabric with two unique surfaces, the Type.vX121 fabric excels at pulling the moisture from the skin and pushing it to the outer limits of the fabric for ease of evaporation. The triple multi-filament microfiber threads are woven using a brand new mechanical technology to combine a non restrictive racing fit with ultimate wicking performance. And as a slightly heavier fabric, it will never feel like you are totally without protection when the wind is gusty down a long mountain descent in July.

Form and Function
Complimenting the highly advanced material on the front panels, the rear design works in unison to keep the sleeveless jersey airy and solidly placed
on your torso. The three-panel construction features two outside panels made from a light spandex. Wonderfully ventilated and still very protective
against UV rays, these two ultra light four-way contour stretching panels keep the jersey ventilated and secure on your back. Meanwhile, the center
panel is made from the ASSOS patented Stabilizator material which keeps it from stretching vertically, especially when your pockets are loaded.
The “clicked-on” fit will not sag or shift in position no matter how stuffed your pockets

Perfection in the details
The arm and head openings make or break any sleeveless jersey. A super soft, perforated fabric is used so that those typically heated areas of the
body can properly ventilate, while the delicate skin around the underarms and at the back of the neck is not irritated from too rough or stiff materials.
The light, flat stitch seams will prevent you from suffering painful seam indentations along your body. Even with such a minimalist, clean design,
you will not have to worry about having no place to store your usual supply of ride necessities. With three pockets in the rear and a safety flap
pocket on the front right side, you will have at least as much storage space as with a normal jersey.
