This winter, Performance Bicycle, the nation’s largest independent cycling retailer, will help make history by sponsoring the 2013 UCI World Elite Cyclo-Cross World Championships – the first time the event has been held outside of Europe in its 60 year history.
Performance Bicycle will be on-site in the expo area with give-a-ways, enter-to-wins, as well as offering a place for spectators to warm up from the cold Kentucky weather. In the days leading up to the Elite Championships, Chuck Gillis from Performance Bicycle’s corporate office will be competing in his first Master’s World Championship.
Cyclo-Cross is a high energy mix of hard bicycle racing and a party held outdoors in any kind of weather. While only 1.5 to 2 miles long, the grueling course includes pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and other obstacles like sandpits, run-ups with or without stairs, barriers and tight turns.
