Today’s 90 kilometer long sixth and final stage of Tour Down Under in the streets of Adelaide was decided in another bunch sprint where André Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) nailed his 100th professional victory after a tight sprint with Mark Renshaw.
Team Saxo-Tinkoff worked hard in front of the field throughout the day but had a rather unfortunate finale:
”The team worked hard in front of the field today to create the best conditions for Johnny in the bunch sprint but unfortunately, he crashed in a bend with 9 kilometers to go and with the pace the field was doing at the time there was no coming back to the front. Luckily, he was only bruised a bit but of course, we’re sorry to see the opportunity of another podium ceremony go to waste,” said Team Saxo-Tinkoff’s Fabrizio Guidi after the final stage of Tour Down Under.
Tom Slagter (Blanco) was brought safely across the finish line and took his first stage race win of his career.
