The 160 kilometer long fourth stage of Tour of Qatar from Camel Race Track to Al Khor Corniche was another windy affair on a flat stretch where a group riders initially managed to escape from the field.
In the finale, Team Saxo-Tinkoff went to the front of the field with a handful of other teams to haul the escapees back in. The many roundabouts resulted in quite a few dangerous situations but on the finish line there was no doubt about the result as Mark Cavendish (Omega-Pharma Quick Step) took another convincing win.
Team Saxo-Tinkoff’s Johnny Cantwell finished sixth:
”It was pretty crazy on the final three kilometers as the pace was picked up in the strong wind and adding the roundabouts, I was happy to be up there on the finish line. The rest of the boys did a fantastic job. We decided to go for me today and they were around me throughout the entire stage protecting me from the wind. Of course, I would have loved to pay back with a win but I couldn’t keep up with the fastest guys,” said Team Saxo-Tinkoff Aussie, Johnny Cantwell.
