Radioshack and BMC have announced their teams for the upcoming races this weekend.
Volta ao Algarve (Portugal) – UCI 2.1 (February 14-17)
Director: José Azevedo
Tour Cycliste Internationale du Haut Var-Matin (France) – UCI 2.1 (February 16-17)
The BMC Racing Team will compete in two races Saturday: Trofeo Laigueglia – a one-day race in Italy – and the opening stage of the two-day Tour du Haut Var in France.
Difficult Finish Sunday At Haut Var
BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said the team’s roster for Tour du Haut Var is built for distinctly different stages. “Saturday is more open and I hope that maybe we can look to Thor Hushovd for the sprint,” Baldato said. “Sunday is definitely more selective. Amaël Moinard is in good condition after the Santos Tour Down Under and the Tour Méditerranéan while Dominik Nerz and Mathias Frank were going well at the Tour de San Luis.” Frank said he remembers the difficulty of the course well. “It is very hilly and there are some steep ramps on the finishing lap that make it very difficult,” he said. “Last year, it was very fast and nobody could really control the race. I had a good start in Argentina but I haven’t raced since, so this will be a good test of my form.”
Six-Man Squad For Laigueglia
At Trofeo Laigueglia, BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Max Sciandri will look to Ivan Santaromita to lead a six-man squad. “It’s a hard course with a pretty hard circuit and Ivan has good condition right now,” Sciandri said. “For some of the guys, this will be a good benchmark race to see how well they are riding. It’s always good to know how you going at this time of the season.” Santaromita was the BMC Racing Team’s best finisher (13th overall) last week at the Tour Méditerranéan.
