The 7 kilometer long prologue of the Belgian stage race, Driedaagse van West-Vlaandern was won by the Belgian national TT champion, Kristof Vandewalle (Omega-Pharma Quick Step) who finished the course in 8.09 minutes.
Team Saxo-Tinkoff’s young Jay McCarthy crossed the finish line after 8 minutes and 32 seconds on the road. Tomorrow, the 175 kilometer long and undulating first stage of the race will probably shake up the bunch in the finale creating time gaps.
”A lot depends on the weather tomorrow. If the weather is fine we’ll probably have a bunch sprint on our hands but if the wind picks up, the field might explode in several bits. Either way, we’ll try to stay in the front of the pack to prepare for the finale where our best card in the sprint is Johnny (Cantwell),” said Team Saxo-Tinkoff’s Jonas Aaen after the prologue.
