Tennis legend Boris Becker will join the Mayor of London on the start line for the challenge of the inaugural Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 sportive on Sunday 4 August.
The six-time Grand Slam champion and his wife, Dutch model Lilly Kerssenberg, will join 20,000 riders in a cycling challenge like no other over a similar route to that of the London 2012 Olympic Road Cycling Races.
The route starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, goes out through the capital and onto Surrey’s stunning country roads and hills before returning to London and the finish on The Mall. View the route map here.
Becker, currently on BBC commentary duty at Wimbledon, is a keen cyclist.
“Cycling is my new sport,” said Becker. “My legs aren’t what they used to be so cycling has been great and my wife loves it too.
“I’ve seen the map and looked at the hills on the route. I’m going to start but I’m not sure where I’m going to finish!”
Other famous names riding the event include rugby legend and Question of Sport captain Matt Dawson, the Emmerdale cast quartet of Rik Makarem, Kelvin Fletcher, Nicola Wheeler and Jason Merrells; Savile Row tailor and star of the Great British Sewing Bee Patrick Grant, and, of course, the other Boris: the Mayor of London.
