Clif Bar, the leader in organic energy and nutrition products, returns as the official sports nutrition supplier for the 2013 Providence Cyclo-cross Festival. Clif Bar has also signed on for naming rights of the Clif Shot Blok Staging Area and as the official energy product of Sunday’s inaugural Gran Fondo New England. LUNA is the presenting sponsor of the elite women’s field of Saturday’s UCI Category 1 Providence International as well as Sunday’s Category 2 women’s race.  Members of the LUNA Chix Pro Team will join the ranks racing for the weekend’s equal podium payouts and Team Luna Chix Boston will host a women’s clinic on Friday, October 4.

The Clif Shot Blok Staging Area sets the stage for the action to follow with fog tents, rock star treatment and an assortment of Clif Bar products to fuel the engines. And with the LUNA ProvTeam on hand, the battle for the podium is guaranteed to be fierce. Team LUNA is set to bring Katerina Nash, who returns to Providence after a four year absence, following her sweep of the weekend in 2009, along with Teal Stetson-Lee, in her second year riding for the team.

“The start of a cyclo-cross race is one of the most stressful things in all of sport. We direct a lot of assets, this includes toilets, water, laundry baskets, tools and pumps, to help every athlete feel like a pro,” noted Festival director Richard Fries, “Thanks to Clif Bar, we also offer those athletes a wide variety of products to help them at that most nervous moment. From Shot Bloks to Clif Shots to Clif Shot Electrolyte hydration products. People work really hard and sacrifice a lot to get to that prestigious start line. Clif Bar respects that by helping them.”

In addition to presenting the women’s field, Team LUNA Chix Boston hosts the LUNA Chix Women’s Cross Weekend, starting with a clinic on October 4.  The clinic entry fee also covers the entry for Saturday’s Category 3/4 event.  Proceeds from the clinic fee are donated to, an organization devoted to identifying and eliminating environmental causes of breast cancer.

Clif Bar products can also be found in ample supply at the rest stops along the route of the inaugural Gran Fondo New England and spectators can sample the organic goodies at the Clif Bar/LUNA booth in the industry expo.

Eric Walle, Sports Marketing Manager for Clif Bar and Company, stated, “As the most fun, exciting, and fan-friendly discipline within cycling, cyclo-cross has been a core element of the Clif Bar mix for twenty years.  The Providence Cyclo-cross Festival is a world-class event that just gets bigger and better each year, and we are truly looking forward to an amazing three days in October.”
