Pro CX: Calendar Concludes With Terrific Racing in Tennessee

With valuable shares of USA Cycling’s $40,000 prize purse at stake, the competitors raised their performance at the final stop of the USA Cycling Professional Cyclo-cross Calendar (Pro CX), the Kingsport Cyclo-cross Cup, in Kingsport, Tenn., on Jan. 5.

Jeremy Powers (Easthampton, Mass./Rapha-), who won 12 races on the calendar, earned 1,015 points to secure the top spot on the final Pro CX men’s standings for the fifth consecutive year. Timothy Johnson (Topsfield, Mass./Cannondale-world.com) surged late in the season, but was unable to dethrone Powers and finished the season with 989 points. (BEL/-Clement) placed third with 866 points. Ryan Trebon (Bend, Ore./Cannondale-world.com) finished fourth with 711 points while James Driscoll (Sandy, Utah/-Clement) rounded out the top five with 530 points. Powers’ teammate Zach McDonald (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Team Rapha-) topped the elite men’s field in Tennessee on Sunday.

Elle Anderson (San Francisco, Calif./California Giant Berry Farms-) grabbed an early lead and did not look back as she claimed the top spot of the Pro CX women’s standings with 809 points. (CZE/Luna Pro Team) ascended the standings late in the season, but was not able to overtake Anderson as she finished with 755 points.  (Boulder, Colo./California Giant Berry Farms-) held off Crystal Anthony (Beverly, Mass./Optum p/b ) to place third while Anthony was fourth.  (Cresco, Pa./Van Dessel p/b Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers) produced strong results late in the season to place fifth after tallying 493 points. Allison Arensman (Rutherford College, N.C./Sophisticated Living-Bob’s Red Mill ) bested the elite women’s field at the Kingsport Cyclo-cross Cup.

The top five of the Pro CX juniors men’s standings are unchanged after the race in Tennessee. Austin Vincent (Simsbury, Conn./Race Cf-Racecf.Org @Racecf), who had clinched the top spot, finished the season with 345 points, 59 points ahead of Lance Haidet (Bend, Ore./Bear Development Team). Peter Goguen (Hopedale, Mass./Race Cf-Racecf.Org @Racecf) placed third with 254 points, only four points ahead of Cooper Willsey (Hinesburg, Vt./Cannondale-world.com), who completed the season in fourth place. David Lombardo (Crystal Lake, Ill./WCJ Racing) rounds out the top five with 236 points. Jonathan Anderson (Topsfield, Mass./Essex County Velo) won the juniors men’s race at the Kingsport Cyclo-cross Cup by over one minute.
