Aaron Gwin (Wildomar, Calif./The YT Mob) claimed the overall win at the 2016 UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup on Saturday after posting a time of 4:35 on a rainy course in Andorra.
Gwin won the first and fourth rounds of the World Cup earlier in the season, while also grabbing three second-place finishes and one fourth-place finish. He was ranked number one in the pro men’s group going into the seventh and final round, and a safe 55th-place finish in Saturday’s final kept him in that number one spot and gave him the overall win.
American Luca Shaw (Hendersonville, N.C./SRAM-Troy Lee Designs) also had a top-ten placing overall, finishing the season in ninth after the Andorra round this weekend. Shaw was 74th in the final round.
The top placed riders in round seven for the USA were Charlie Harrison (Trabuco Canyon, Calif,/Trek Factory) and Eliot Jackson (Westlake Village, Calif./Pivot Factory Racing) in 14th and 15th. Danny Hart (GBR) won the final round in a time of 4:13.611.
In the junior men’s ranks, American Nikolas Nestoroff (San Marcos, Calif./Intense Cycles) finished the season ranked fifth overall after an 18th-place result on Saturday. The top junior of the day for the USA was Joshua Rogers (Clayton, N.C./Billy Goat Bikes Racing) who finished 11th on Saturday and ranked 30th overall.
The cross-country portion of the Mountain Bike World Cup wraps up on Sunday.
