My apologies to the 2 or 3 regular readers of this blog.
Between a death in the family and work commitments, the last month has been crazy. Things are down to a low roar now, and I expect that I will be posting more often.
I don’t expect that I’ll be trying to catch up with everything that has happened in the last month, but here are some highlights:
- Michael Rasmussen has finally owned up to lying about his whereabouts in the Spring, though he is saying that Rabobank was fully aware of where he was. Should we be looking for a wrongful dismissal lawsuit? Yep.
- Eagle City, a suburb of Boise, ID is closer to getting a bicycle park that will include a velodrome, BMX track and other facilities.
- American Katie Compton took her first World Cup cyclocross win in Pinjacker, Netherlands.
- American Chris Horner will join the Astana team for 2008.
- The route has been announced for the 2008 Tour of California.
- It took long enough, but Floyd Landis has officially filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). It could take until May for a decision to be rendered. Would Floyd be better off to save his money and just sit on the bench?
- Predictor-Lotto racer Bjorn Leukemans was suspended after testing positive for high levels of testosterone. First he said that he had naturally high levels, then that he was having sex when the testers showed up at his door. Will they ever get a clue?
- Saul Raisin will not be permitted to race in 2008. Doctors have decided that recent neuro-psychological tests, as well as the risk of serious re-injury in the case of another crash have informed their decision.
- The Predictor-Lotto team will be known as Silence-Lotto for 2008.
- Team Astana has announced that they will be using SRAM’s Red group next year. They don’t have a bike sponsor yet, but there are rumblings it may be Trek.
- Big news: Deutsche Telekom has pulled their sponsorship of the T-Mobile race team. Adidas, Audi and Giant have all jumped ship as well. They will continue in 2008 as Team High Road. Bob Stapleton will have to scramble to line up gear, or they’ll be riding K-Mart bikes, wearing flip-flops and t-shirts.
I know that there’s more. Stay tuned.
