Tour of America - Version 0.2

December 18th, 2007 · No Comments

It’s not dead yet!

Aqu, Inc., the organizers of the coast-to-coast Tour of America stage race announced revised dates and routes for their inaugural event.

You may remember than when the race was first announced at Interbike, it’s ambitious course (27 stages, 4000 miles) and dates than conflicted with other ProTour events was met with a healthy dose of skepticism.  Based upon feedback from media, supporters, racers and professional race organizing bodies, they have chosen to shorten the race to 21 stages covering 2200 miles over 22 days (September 6 to 28).

The race will still kick off in Central Park in New York City and plans to complete in Palo Alto. CA. Cities along the race route include Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Denver, Las Vegas and Sacramento.

Frank Arokiasamy, the president of Aqu Sports states:

To ensure the race would attract the best international racing teams and the support of both cycling enthusiasts and sports fans alike, we’ve modified the race schedule and route to its current form.

Our goal is to make this race happen in September 2008. There is a lot to accomplish between now and then. With help and cooperation, of host cities, racers, bicycle racing enthusiasts and potential sponsors, we can make it happen.

Twenty-five teams will be invited to the race, and they will compete for a prize purse worth $10 million.
