If you’ve been following this thread so far, you know that all I had left to acquire was some drivetrain parts. I picked those up today, once again at a good discount from retail.
I had been thinking about getting some carbon bars. Several weeks ago, I was shopping around on eBay and found a good deal on some FSA K-Force bars. This is the first part of this upgrade that is not “new”, but they were a take-off from a new bike, so we’ll call it “very lightly used.”
Here’s the updated table:
| Component | Retail | eBay | Savings |
| SRAM Force Front Der. | $62 | $47 | $15 |
| SRAM Force Rear Der. | $169 | $84 | $85 |
| SRAM Force Shifters | $529 | $306 | $223 |
| SRAM S950 Crankset | $294 | $155 | $139 |
| FSA K-Force Carbon Fiber Bar | $175 | $125 | $50 |
| SRAM PC-1090 Chain | $62 | $44 | $18 |
| SRAM OG-1070 Cassette | $83 | $61 | $22 |
| SRAM GXP Bottom Bracket | $56 | $34 | $22 |
| Total (so far) | $1430 | $856 | $574 |
So far I have saved, on average, a little over 40% of off retail prices.
I’ll do the majority of the work to install the parts myself. I’ve signed up for a Park Tool workshop at the local bike shop and will be able to combine some learning that I’ve wanted for a long time with some good hands-on tuning.
