  • CyclingNews.com reports that Alessandro Petacchi will have his next day in court on March 12, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, will hear appeals concerning his “non-negative” doping test from the 2007 Giro d’Italia. Both the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) have appealed the Italian Cycling Federation’s dismissal of the charges. What I want to know is how he got to the CAS so quickly. Floyd doesn’t have his hearing until the 19th of March for his 2006 case.
  • Australian track star Anna Meares had a crash during the keirin final at the Track World Cup in Los Angeles. Meares, the world record holder and Olympic champion for the 500m time trial, was taken from the Los Angeles Home Depot Center velodrome on a backboard, but was able to move her fingers and toes.
  • The Slipstream/Chipotle team received a wildcard invitation to the Giro d’Italia for this year. Team owner Doug Ellis is, of course, elated, but I’m curious if, should they receive an invitation to the Tour de France, would they do both? Team director Jonathon Vaughters had previously been hoping to do the TdF this year.
  • At the World Cup in Hoogerheide, The Netherlands, Sunday, Jonathan Page, the runner-up at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships last year, finished the demanding race in eight place. Fellow American Jeremy Powers also did well. Meanwhile, US National champion Tim Johnson had a bad day, as he was bothered with a cold. Ryan Trebon, who will also be participating in the World Championship next weekend, didn’t start. Trebon has been suffering from strong back pain since a crash at the American nationals. He was likely saving what form he does have for next week’s showdown in Treviso, Italy.
  • First there were rumors, then, supposedly a contract. Now, Mario Cipollini stated that he is holding off signing with Rock Racing. Apparently, he is not being given the level of control that he had been anticipating.
  • Floyd Landis sat down with Neal Rogers of Velo News in what has been his most extensive interview in some time. Did you expect him to pull any punches? Silly goose.
