News Of The Wheeled, Product And Technology News, Racing News

Oh, where does the time go? My days have been filled with new projects (I am a project manager, after all), and the nights have been occupied with finishing the SRAM build on my road bike (it’s done, just in time for my new frame to be delivered ;-~).

Let’s see what’s happened lately…

Racing News:

  • Floyd Landis’ hearing with the CAS completed the Monday after Easter. The word on the street is that we won’t hear anything any earlier than June 19th.
  • Rock Racing has been excluded from the Tour of Georgia. Bad idea. Love them or hate them, they are drawing a lot of attention right now, and you know what they say about publicity….
  • There were rumors that Alberto Contador would be leaving Astana and looking for a new team so that he could defend his Tour de France title, but he’s staying put.
  • The Track Worlds have come and gone. There were a lot of medals for the hosting British riders, while for us Yanks, Taylor Finney took eighth and won a spot on the US Olympic team. Jennie Reed won the gold in the Keirin.
  • Gert Steegmans ran into a tractor during the Dwars door Vlaanderen. Ouch.
  • Danilo Di Luca didn’t show up for his doping hearing with the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), and sent his brother in his place. Danilo has obviously never held down a real job, because he doesn’t seem to realize that even if you don’t show up on the day that they want to lay you off, you still get laid off.

Tech & Spec:

  • Hilton Clarke’s Toyota-United Fuji SL1
  • Cycling News has additional, and seemingly solid, information about what is coming for Dura Ace in 2009
  • Campagnolo created what was initially to be a pro-only “Red” edition of their Record shift levers. Now they are releasing them to the general public, but they will sell only 600 sets. If you have a desire for the truly rare, get out your credit cards, as they will only be sold as part of a full gruppo!

More tomorrow.
