Is Lance riding for Astana or Livestrong?

December 3rd, 2008 by Ron Callahan 560 views 2 Comments

I’ve been perusing the photo galleries of the Astana training camp and it seems that Lance doesn’t quite have the team spirit yet. He has been almost exclusively wearing a Livestrong kit.

We’ve all seen different team jerseys for riders who may be reigning national or world champions, but this is an outright different name and color scheme? Will the UCI allow this or will Armstrong eventually wear the Astana colors?

Has anyone heard anything about plans to fly Livestrong colors while racing? It certainly would put the focus on the cancer awareness effort, but it’s certainly not team oriented.

First of all, every pro rider under contract is required to comply with its team obligations through Dec. 31, 2008 under UCI rules.

Lance was not under contract to any professional team in 2008, thus he can wear whatever he so choses.

Don’t be surprised to see the new Astana kit sporting a RADICALLY different design for 2009 – incorporating a few of Armstrong’s personal endorsements.
