February 10th, 2009 by Al Fresco 419 views No Comment

The teams and rosters have been announced for the 36th edition of the Tour of the Mediterranean Sea, starting tomorrow.

The race has seen a rise in its UCI classification, and as such, they have increased the amount of climbing in the race, with the final stage from Nice to Mont-Faron culminating in a mountaintop finish.

Favorites for the race include Spaniard Jose Ivan Gutierrez (Caisse d’Epargne), who won the race and will have two helpers in the person of Oscar Pereiro and Luis Leon Sanchez at his side. Also on the bill are Frenchman Remy di Gregorio (FdJ), Clement Lhottelerie (Vacansoleil) and David Moncoutie (Cofidis), who last year took second place. Even the South African John-Lee Augustyn (Barloworld), Russians Vladimir and Alexander Efimkin (both Ag2r), David Millar (Slipstream) and the Italian Giampaolo Caruso (Ceramica Flamina) may have some ambitions for the podium.
