Here’s our somewhat delayed daily dose of 2009 Tour de France extras:

  • Sebastien Joly dropped out of the race yesterday, but thanked fellow cancer survivor Lance Armstrong for his support when he was diagnosed with the disease two years ago.
  • Alberto Contador is happy with his attack on Friday and the subsequent result for himself and the team.
  • Doping control #40 for Lance Armstrong this morning. He just got tested about two days ago, it seems.
  • 2006 Tour de France winner (of sorts) Oscar Pereiro dropped out of the race during today’s stage.
  • Christophe Kern will start on Sunday in the climber’s jersey and Thor Hushovd will don the green sprinter’s jersey.
  • Columbia-HTC’s Tony Martin still has the white young rider’s jersey.
  • After the stage, Sanchez said, “Today was a perfect day to try to do something. With a finish far beyond the last col, I got an opportunity presented. I’ve caught them with both hands.”
  • Sanchez won the 7th stage in last year’s race.
  • Sanchez hopes that his Spanish buddy Alberto Contador can win the race. “I would be delighted if Alberto won the Tour, he really is a great friend of mine,” said the Caisse d’Epargne team leader.

Other News:

  • The news that Serge Pauwels had signed for the new British Sky Team appears premature. The rider was now saying that he is going to choose between Sky and his current employer Cervelo.
  • Spaniard Egoi Martinez extended his contract with Euskaltel until 2010. The team made the announcement before the start of the 8th stage.

Other Results:

  • Koos Morenhout of Rabobank won the 7th stage time trial at the Tour of Austria. Michael Albasini still holds the leader’s jersey.
