Yes, I am a hardcore roadie, but it’s not always about lycra and speed. Sometimes I just want some casual clothing for an easy ride, or something to wear over my bike shorts if I’m out for a cruise.

Harlot’s Murray short fits the bill. It’s more than just a pair of nylon shorts. The outside of the legs and the seat is made of a nicely stretchy nylon/polyester blend and the inside of the leg and the crotch features a gusseted 4-way panel that seems to offer some abrasion resistance. They are nicely baggy and fit comfortably over a pair of bike shorts. While I haven’t done it personally, they are said to be cut to go over body armor for you gravity sport types.

I also liked the wicking material on the waist band. It was comfortable against my skin and seemed to move to the right place on my body and not bind when I was in the riding position. The waist of the shorts have a zipper fly that is backed up with dual snaps and there are two seatbelt-style straps on the side that allow further adjustment. I definitely did not have to worry about these falling off!

Harlot Cyclewear is primarily known as a supplier of cycling clothing for women, but they definitely seem to have their act together for stuff for us guys as well. It’s nice to see that they are making their apparel in the U.S. from American made materials.

My only beef with these shorts is that I would have liked to see a pocket in the back that closed either with a zip or with velcro, otherwise, I think that they offer a great value for cyclists looking for some casual/technical shorts for cruising or off-road adventures.

Pros: American made materials and labor, tough but stretchy cloth, nice baggy fit without chafing.

Cons: I need somewhere to put my wallet when I ride to the store!
