Phillipe Gilbert (Silence-Lotto) went three for three in his races this week with a win at the Giro d’Lombardia. He used his post World Championships fitness to take Sunday’s Paris-Bourges and Thursday’s Giro di Piemonte race as well.

With teammate and new World Champion Cadel Evans leading him up the final climb at San Fermo de la Batalla, Gilbert pulled clear with only Samuel Sanchez on his tail and rode to the win at the 2009 season’s last road race that matters.

Alexandr Kolobnev (Saxo Bank), silver medalist at the world championships, led a group of chasers four seconds back to round out the podium.
