Lance Armstrong to ride 2010 Amgen Tour of California

October 22nd, 2009 by Ron Callahan 669 views No Comment

Lance Armstrong just announced via his Twitter account that he was going to ride the 2010 Tour of California. The confirmation was apparently made in response to a question from California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The confirmation ends speculation as to whether he would choose to compete in the U.S., where his new team sponsor Radio Shack has a major presence, or if he would race the Giro d’Italia as a warm-up for the Tour de France.

In a followup post, he expresses interest about the stage from Santa Rosa to Davis, calling it “one of the best cycling communities in America”.

Turns out that the post on Twitter was part of a coordinated publicity effort that also involved Levi Leipheimer, Dave Zabriskie and George Hincapie. Each rider tweeted that they would be participating in the race and followed up with favorite stages, race goals and the like.

I’m sure that there will be more information coming. Stay tuned.
