5eThe International Cycling Union confirmed on Saturday that, according to its regulations, Alberto Contador is free to leave Team Astana to engage with another team for the 2010 season.

Astana has not yet provided all the necessary documentation to the UCI to obtain his license Pro Tour, the riders of the Kazakh team are free to withdraw, even if they are still under contract.

However, Astana still has a month to put its paperwork in order in order to try and get his license.Keep in mind that this is only one side of the equation. Pierrick Fedrigo tried to free himself from BBox Bouyges Telecom when they lost their Pro Tour status, but French labor laws prohibited him from breaking his contract.
