“Surface treatment” was the name of the game at the Descente booth this year.

One of the most impressive new items in their line was the Avanti bib and jersey combo. Like a lot of cycling clothing, the Avanti bibs are black. Most black cycling clothing actually absorbs 90% of the sun’s heat, but the Avanti clothing has been treated with Schoeller’s ColdblackTM technology during the drying process actually reflect 80% of heat rays while also offering a minimum of UPF 30+ protection against harmful UV rays.

The company keeps the technology a closely guarded secret, but the results speak for themselves: temperature tests at independent labs found that a ColdblackTM‐treated jersey held under infrared lamps stayed 10‐degrees F cooler on the interior and 22‐degrees F cooler on the surface than a regular jersey. The jersey also features:

• Welded seams and hems
• Patented “single sided raglan” aerodynamic pattern
• Mesh ventilation under the arms
• Three back pockets
• Three‐quarter length hidden zipper

The Avanti bibshorts receive the same Coldblack treatment as the jersey and also feature the Infinity chamois insert. With high‐density inserts, perforation for breathability, a super‐ soft, stretch surface and 14mm of open‐cell foam exactly where you need it, this chamois goes the distance. The Avanti bibs, too, are black through‐and‐through save for the three color options of the Descente logoed gripper (iron, sky, or true red).

Finally, the Icefil jersey features IcefilTM Cooling Fabric. Icefil is an innovative new material with a multistep cooling technology designed to provide cooling comfort in warm and humid conditions. Icefil cools by up to 5 degrees, is moisture absorbing with 2‐way air circulation, antibacterial and offers 50+ UV protection.
