Belgian track cyclist Dimitri De Fauw commits suicide

A former road racer for from 2003-2005, De Fauw was best known for his performance on track, winning the Belgian championship in the sprint, keirin and scratch events.

He was a fixture on the Six Day Race circuit. Wednesday, he finished seventh in the Six Days of Grenoble () with Danish partner . According to Belgian media, De Fauw had been depressed in recent years. In 2006 during the , he accidentally caused the fall of the Spaniard Isaac Galvez who died as a result of his injuries.

Friend and colleague was shocked at the death of De Fauw. They spent the week together in Grenoble and Keisse did not notice anything out of the ordinary. De Fauw drove home with Keisse and Gianni Meersman and even told Keisse that he would call him this week to train together.
