Bit of a slow news day today once you get past the million articles talking about the bidding war for Alberto Contador… Bianchi signs on for Ceramica Flaminia, U.S. devo riders take on the Six Day circuit, Skil-Shimano picks up new sponsor and a little more… The news:
- Cyclocrosser Klaas Vantornout has a torn tendon in his right shoulder as a result of a fall in Hoogstraten on November 1st. He thought that it was okay, but it flared up again at last weekend’s World Cup event in Nommay.
- Ellsworth Bikes is the new equipment sponsor for the Velo Bella cyclocross team. Ellsworth has provided the team’s elite racers with its redesigned “Roots” cyclocross bikes.
- Bianchi has signed on to be the equipment sponsor for the Ceramica Flaminia – Bossini Showers team for 2010 & 2011. Italy is Bianchi’s largest market, so the manufacturer is happy to work with a domestic team. The team will ride Bianchi’s 928 SL road bike.
- Pedro Horillo (Rabobank) is back on his bike after his horrible fall during the Giro. He had surgery 10 days ago to remove screws and plates put in his knee after the accident. He’ll decide in a few weeks if he will return to competition in 2010.
- U.S. Development riders Guy East and Austin Carroll placed 10th in the recent Grenoble Six Day race and head next to the UK to compete in the Manchester Revolution event on November 14th.
- Italian footballer Luca Toni will kick off the start of the 46th Six Days of Monaco, starting Thursday in the sovereignity’s Olympic Stadium. Italy’s tricolor will be worn on the opening night by the German defending champions Robert Bartko and Roger Kluge (riding for the Italian Emilia Romagna team).
- The Skil-Shimano cycling team has entered into a partnership with the Bastion Hotel Group, which becomes co-sponsor of the team on January 1st, 2010. The team will also leave their home base in Deurningen for a new permanent centralised training base at Bastion Hotel in Limburg in the southeast of the Netherlands.
