Interbike Vendor Spotlight: Cyfac

November 13th, 2009 by Ron Callahan 1,047 views 2 Comments

ABSOLU Detail

Cyfac started as a framebuilder to some of cycling’s greatest stars, building bikes that were covered under another manufacturer’s paint scheme. Riders chose Cyfac founder Francis Quillon’s bikes for their precision craftsmanship, quality and fit, and they knew that they would stand up to the hard demands of European racing. His frames were ridden to victory in some of the world’s most prestigious races and events.

Now, Cyfac continues to make themselves known on the world market. They offer a full line of standard and custom fit bikes in steel, aluminum and carbon fiber for road racing, touring, track, time trial/tri and off road.

We got a chance to look at several bikes at the show.

First up was the Fixie. Cyfac’s Fixie is not a track bike, nor is a low end frame with track drops. Cyfac has created a fixed gear road bike for discerning customers. The handmade frame comes in full steel with a  carbon fork. The frame and fork can be purchased for $1699 or it can be purchased as a complete build for around $2400.

Cyfac’s Absolu is back for 2010 with an all new Mondrian style paint scheme. It’s the world’s only 100% custom carbon frameset featuring an integrated aero seat post design. Cyfac’s new POST (Postural Optimal Seat Tube) technoloy works in perfect harmony with their Cyfac Postural System (CPS) to generate precise integrated seat tube extension. Spacers allow for 4 centimeters of height adjustment, and 3 saddle clamp placements (back, middle, forward) allow the effective seat angle to be tweaked. The integrated seat mast can also be cut down or removed entirely with a normal seat post put in its place. The Aboslu can be purchased in standard geometries for $4999 or can be built fully custom for $6899. In addition to the new paint scheme, it can be custom painted in any of 35 colors in Cyfac’s selection.

New for 2010, the Gothica Cyclo brings Cyfac’s handcrafted build philosophy to the enthusiast cyclist, featuring a taller head tube and shortened top tube for optimal all-day comfort while still delivering precise handling and performance characteristics. Like many of Cyfac’s other bikes, multiple finish options are available. The frame also features internal cable routing and it includes a 100% carbon fork. Custom frames start at $4500.

The Cadence is a more economical carbon fiber frame that is only available in standard sizes. The Cadence offers similar technology to the Gothica, but uses a slightly more economical carbon cloth to help keep the price down. It only gives up a slight amount of weight to the Gothica and complete builds with Dura-Ace weighing in at a little over 15 pounds are entirely possible. It will retail for $2999 as a frame/fork combo and will be available in 5 standard sizes (including a 650B build) and 4 colors.

Finally, there is the Cyfac Vintage. The Vintage harkens back to the golden era of cycling with full or partially lugged steel frames with standard 1″ headsets and steel forks. The Vintage is well suited to racing, touring and cyclocross and offers plenty of clearance for larger tires and fenders. Fully custom frames and forks start at $2599.
