Tour de France 2009 Stage Twenty One

Alberto Contador (above, waving bye-bye) announced Thursday to the Spanish press that he will honor the last year of his c0ntract with the Astana, the Kazakhstan based cycling team. The contract is contigent on Astana receiving their Pro Tour license on Friday and holds him to a new code of ethics and internal anti-doping system that is being put in place by team management.

According to the article, Contador decided to honor his contract after ascertaining that Sanquer Yvon, new team manager, and Giuseppe Martinelli, the first team manager, have managed to assemble a high quality team that will guarantee him success in the coming year.

Contador is fully expected to leave the team at the end of 2010. He is, of course, coveted by many teams, and received concrete proposals from Garmin, Quick Step and Caisse d’Epargne).
