Skins came into the cycling business as a seller of compression garments to aid racers with post-race/post-workout recovery. In 2010, they are rolling out a new line of cycling and triathlon clothing that are intended to improve performance while riding.

Skins have been shown to:

  • Increase venous return
  • Reduce post-exercise muscle soreness
  • Remove lactic-acid faster
  • Increase time to exhaustion
  • Increase strength and power
  • Improve endurance
  • Improve body temperature control
  • Decrease flight leg oedema

Sizing for Skins is based on BMI (Body Mass Index), helping to further optimize the benefits of wearing them.

New for 2010 are their “Pro” and “Elite” lines of cycling clothing.

The Elite line features long and short sleeve jerseys without compression and bib shorts offering Skins’ BioAcceleration gradient compression system. The jerseys are cut to be worn on the bike and feature venting panels that align perfectly with those on Skins’ compression base layers for optimum heat and moisture management. They are available in sizes from XS to XXL in black or white.

The bib shorts provide gradient compression that has been proven to accelerate blood flow and oxygen delivery to working muscles. As well, the circulation improvement contributes to flushing of lactic acid and metabolic waste, helping you to go harder, longer. The chamois is taped instead of stitched in strategic areas to minimize chafing and varying densities of foam are utilized to optimize weight distribution on the saddle. Finally, the shorts feature higher durability fabric on the front and inner leg of the shorts that reduces pilling. They too are available in sizes from XS to XXL in black or white.

The Pro line is targeted to the beginner cyclist that wants a little something different. Jerseys feature a full front zipper, an MP3/radio pocket, reflective elements and SPF 50+ UV protection. For men, shorts, bib knickers and full bib tights are available. In an unusual turn, Women get bibs in all three styles.

Skins’ Compression line now includes short and long sleeve jerseys in addition to long sleeve and sleeveless baselayers.

Skins was also pleased to announce that they had forged a relationship with USA Cycling and that they were to be the official supplier of both recovery and on-bike clothing for US cyclists.
