The Tour of Spain (Vuelta a Espana) announced their 2010 route today. The 65th edition of the race will kick off on August 28th with an evening team time trial event in Sevilla, Spain and will continue through September 19th.

The race will travel around Spain in a counter-clockwise direction. The decisive part of the race will come in stages 14 through 16, when the mountains come on in full force. Stage 17’s individual time trial may not be as crucial to the final podium as the penultimate Stage 20 will contain 4 mountain passes, two rated at Category 1.

All in all, there are to be 11 flat stages, 8 medium or high mountain stages, 6 stages with an uphill finish (Stages 8,11, 14, 15, 16 and 20), the previously mentioned team time trial, and an individual time trial of 46 km.

Finally, what’s old is new again as race leaders will wear a traditional red jersey instead of the gold that has adorned the man to beat since
