The International Cycling Union (UCI) yesterday published a fictitious ranking for the UCI Women’s Teams in order to establish participation for the 2010 UCI Road Women World Cup.

This fictitious ranking is based on the accumulated points of the best four riders in each team. Organisers of the World Cup events are required to invite the top 20 teams in this ranking, as well as the top five nations in the nations ranking, to participate in their event, guaranteeing top sporting quality in each round.

The 2010 UCI Road Women World Cup calendar includes nine events, starting with the Trofeo Alfredo Binda-Comune di Cittiglio, in Italy, on March 28th, and finishing in France on August 21st with the GP de Plouay-Bretagne. New to the World Cup calendar this year is the Tour of Chongming Island World Cup (China) on May 9th, the first Women’s World Cup leg ever to be held in Asia. It is also of note that the GP Ciudad de Valladolid (Spain) returns to the World Cup calendar on June 6th after two seasons’ absence.

The World Cup events are among 55 races on the 2010 UCI Women Elite Road calendar, which take place on four continents; Europe, America, Asia and Oceania. The first event of this calendar began yesterday with the Ladies Tour of Qatar.
